The Abyss Sunken Wilds Guide: All Quests, Puzzles & Best Gear

Before diving into the Sunken Wilds, make sure you’ve mastered survival in the Forgotten Dome, upgrading your oxygen Tubes and collecting key items like the Spirit Key to prepare for deeper challenges.

Getting Started: Requirements and Location

To survive the depths of the new Jungle update, you must be prepared before leaving the Spirited Roots. The Sunken Wilds is located directly to the left of the Spirited Roots biome. You will notice a distinct change in the environment, including a new time cycle and weather cycle system that adds atmosphere to your exploration.

Before heading out, ensure you have the minimum equipment required to enter. Players need the Spirited Gear set to survive.

Spirited Gear: A gear set consisting of the Lost Spirit Gun and Lost Spirit Tube, required for basic survival in the new jungle area.

If you already possess the Ruin Set, you will find exploring this area significantly easier. However, the Lost Spirit set is sufficient for the initial areas.

The Waterfall Cave and Banana Gear

In the center of the Sunken Wilds, you will find a massive waterfall area. Behind this waterfall is a crucial cave where players can regenerate their oxygen. This hub is essential for survival, as you will return here frequently during your quests.

Inside the cave, you can purchase the new Banana Gear. While players owning the Ruin Set should skip these items, they are a recommended upgrade for anyone still using the Lost Spirit set.

Monkey Quests and Arthur’s Stolen Items

The central cave is home to the Builder Monkey, an NPC who offers the initial quest line involving catching fish. Completing his tasks is vital for accessing later game content. However, be cautious when exploring the waters, as hostile Piranhas are abundant in this biome..

To the right of the main cave exit, you will find an NPC named Arthur. He tasks you with retrieving his stolen backpack, tube, and harpoon from three Thief Monkeys scattered around the area:

  1. First Thief Monkey: Has Arthur’s tube. Requires bananas and fish to return the item.
  2. Second Thief Monkey: Located opposite the main cave exit.
  3. Third Thief Monkey: Perched on top of a tree near the second monkey.

Once you retrieve all three items, return them to Arthur to complete the quest. You can also find the Monk NPC on a high platform, who requests 100,000 cash, a Liquid Mutated Fish, and a Sacabambaspis.

Sunken Temple Puzzles and Rewards

At the very bottom of the Sunken Wilds lies a secret cave containing the Sunken Temple. Be warned: the Lost Spirit set is not sufficient for this depth, and you will lose oxygen without an upgrade.

This deep area is also home to the Mosasaurus, a whale-like creature that sells for a high price.

Inside the temple, you must solve three floor puzzles to progress.

  1. Puzzle 1: Step on specific tiles to light them all green.
  2. Puzzle 2: Start on the activation tile and walk around the perimeter using the rocks to reach the end.
  3. Puzzle 3: Follow a complex, specific route across the tiles to the finish.
